5 out of 5 stars More than a game.   November 2, 2008

I could heap many superlatives onto this game - though to call it a game would be a disservice as it is more artistic, thought-provoking and dramatic than anything ever released for the medium of video games. The cut-scenes are long, but they unravel a narrative tapestry that has taken twenty years to culminate and, if skipped, take away much of what makes GOTP an absolute joy to play.

And as for game play? Hideo Kojima, the auteur of the series, invented the stealth genre and has remained one step ahead of the competition ever since. Snake uses Octocamo to blend in with his surroundings - his suit automatically aping any surface that he comes into contact. How you fight Snake's final (?) battle is up to you. Do you fight alongside local militia against rich military agencies or sneak past in the confusion? The choice is yours. You can even complete the game without taking another life. What other game has such a sense of moral conscience?

If you haven't played this game yet, then I envy you. You are in for a real treat. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars BEST GAME EVER   October 25, 2008
This is by far the best game i have ever played. mgs4 follows on from where it left off and yet another brilliant game. but this just doesn't end there, MGO, the online game that comes with it is absolutely unbelievable. by far the best fun ever. hours and hours of fun. im not the best at it. in fact far from it and its still enjoyable.

1 out of 5 stars Utter Disappointment   October 19, 2008

After finishing MGS3 and replaying through Subsistence, I really thought Kojima was moving in the right direction. But this is such a huge let-down - unless you're a 13 year old PS3 fanboy. There is about 6 hours of enjoyable gameplay in this title, interspersed with Kojima-babble and self-referential nonsense that serves to alienate the new player and (in my case) bore the fan. How are you supposed to have empathy for characters that are so over-manipulated? There are some great concepts, and visually, it's beautiful, but it's not interactive. Each section of gameplay merely feels like a link to the next cutscene.

All of the depth, progression, tension and stealth of MGS3 is lost here. Save your money - buy a used PS2 and a copy of MGS3 Subsistence - it really is a much better game!

1 out of 5 stars Am I playing the same game?   October 17, 2008

Am I playing the same game as everyone else? The graphics are stunning, but the game is very linear and with way too many cut movie scenes. If i want to watch a movie I'll buy a DVD. I want to play a video game. Overrated, over hyped and disappointing.
