A breakthrough in portable gaming March 17, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
The Nintendo DS Lite is a huge leap forward for the portable games industry.
The games on the DS are so far ahead of the competition it is amazing to think anyone would want to own any other handheld. Games such as Wario ware, Nintendogs & Trauma centre to name a few all use the new control systems that the stylus and microphone offer. What other machine allows you to become a world class surgeon with such a fitting control method?
There are lots of reasons to own a DS and None not to!
Nintendo DS Lite (White) March 14, 2007 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I have never owned any kind of gaming machine before. My brother had a NES when we were kids, but he never let me use it anyway, and when he was old enough to buy a car he put away such 'childish' things and I gave it no more thought.
However, when I saw the adverts for this new Nintendo DS Lite I knew instantly that I had to have it. For 100 you do get a very good looking piece of equipment, and the set-up is really easy. It feels good to hold in my hand, and it also appeals to people of all ages, so even at the ripe old age of 24 I don't feel silly playing on it in public places. My boyfriend is also obsessed with it, and plays on it all the time.
The games are quite expensive, the first game I bought was ZooKeeper, but I found that I completed it really fast so I have moved on to games that hold my attention for longer, such as Animal Crossing, which is excellent. I also want to try Phoenix Wright, as that looks right up my street.
All in all, I'd say the DS Lite is an excellent way to waste a couple of hours, and it's sleek white design is truly gorgeous too.
ok but........ February 21, 2007 4 out of 55 found this review helpful
If you already own an old type of nintendo don't buy the new DS lite, its just the same but smaller! But if you are looking for a nintendo buy this one,its the best you'l find.I would suggest a playstation 2,playstation 3 or even an xbox-360 over nintendo DS,even though ps2 and xbox aren't portable.I got bored with the games after a day.The only good one that I own is brain training- How old is your brain? If you enjoy games like Crash,Pokemon or super mario,I would suggest buying this, but if you don't like those types of games,I would suggest saving your money to buy a playstation2 because most of the nintendo games are the same as those.Plus the screens are tiny and not very bright. My favourite part of the nintendo is Pictochat, this lets you send other nintendo owners messages within 20 metres by typing and drawing.Over all I give this 6/10.
Compact perfection February 17, 2007 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
Way back when, when the first DS was released, the things that stopped me from getting one was it's size. shape, and look. I knew the games where amazing because my brother had one and I got to have a go, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy one. And then I heard about the DS lite on the internet, and my prayers were answered when I heard about it's capabilities. Everything is an improvement on its predecessor. Its sleek, good to look at, has a brilliantly bright screen, and best of all, they replaced the poorly designed origional stylus with a new, chunkier one. Now Nintendo fans and everyone else can take out their new handheld consoles in public without chance of ridicule. My advice, dont buy a PSP just because of the better graphics, it's choice of games is appalling. Buy a DS lite for pure, unconditional fun.
Nintendotastic! February 6, 2007 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought by DS a couple of weeks ago and I am very impressed with it.
The screens are very bright and crisp, so they are easy to look at for prolonged periods of time.
I have used touch screen devices before (PDAs etc) but the touch screen on this is far more responsive than any other I've used, with no lag at all.
I love the dual screen aspect of gaming, it allows so much more features in games, and allows some games to be brought to portable gaming which could otherwise never be done (such as Settlers).
The stereo speakers sound good for the game music, and the top screen can be angled for comfort. If you play for a while you tend to get a bit if finger-ache, but I've never played on a portable that doesn't give you that!
The clamshell design protects the screens and keeps the device compact. The looks are striking, a white slap (not unlike the Ipod!) with a lovely glossy exterior. The stylus nests firmly in the DS and doesn't fall out.
The battery lasts a fairly long time, and you don't need any ridiculous adaptors to attach the power cord to the device. The card slot for the old GBA games is filled with a dummy white plastic cartridge so as not to ruin the sleek lines and look of the DS - it can be removed easily to insert a cartridge.
This device might not have graphics as good as some other machines, but it still has good graphics, and it has lots of games - many of which are phenomenally addictive!!!
