1 out of 5 stars they just don't know how to make a good history flic these days   November 21, 2008
WoW, what a thoroughly awfull film. Historically inaccurate, badly acted, terrible script and a very cheap rip of of the clive owen "king arthur" movie.

I would quite happily give away my copy to anyone sad enough to want it.

If you are looking for something that can equal kingdom of heaven, gladiator, braveheart or king arthur, keep looking, this is certainly not the movie you're looking for.

1 out of 5 stars What a HUGE disappointment   November 2, 2008
Having read the original book - elements from which were almost certainly 'borrowed' for 'King Arthur' - I was disappointed to have missed what seemed to be a ridicously short run at the cinema. Having now seen the film on DVD, I can see why that run was so short. It's truly awful. Ben Kingsley is hams it up so badly you'd think he was in panto and Colin Firth is so wooden if the film had been any longer he'd have needed a coat of Ronseal. If you want to spend your money then buy the book instead. This was an opportunity missed to make a really entertaining film and is a HUGE disappointment.

3 out of 5 stars Could have been much better   October 24, 2008
I had read the book and was looking forward to this movie. I began to get worried when it said 'loosely based on the book.....', and boy was that an understatement! The film itself was OK, but I have no idea what was wrong with the book, I personally think that would have made a much better movie!

3 out of 5 stars Wet Saturday morning viewing   September 26, 2008
Yes, it's not historically accurate. Yes, Ben Kingsley's accent leaves something to be desired. Yes, Colin Firth is Darcy in pretty much everything he does. Yes, Mira is an absolute stunner. My son was riveted and thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. I have to say I did too. There's something rather comforting about constantly saying "Gosh, it's so and so from xxx " as a whole host of recognisable actors stroll across the scene. It's rather like "Jason and the Argonauts" for the 21st century. Fun, not a history lesson. There's action, some wry humour, enough blood for an 11 year old and all the ingredients which make up the sort of film which used to turn up at the Saturday matinee. It doesn't take itself seriously so you need to watch it in that spirit.

Despite the adverse reviews, I decided to purchase this DVD.I watched it over the weekend, and wish I'd taken note of the reviews, this is pretty awful!! Poor acting, an awful script, no wonder it is so cheap!! A shame because with the calibre of some of the cast, it could have been so much better. What sort of history lessons did the scriptwriter attend?
