Amazon.co.uk Review You know you're going to get a different kind of superhero when you cast Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. And Iron Man is different, in welcome ways. Cleverly updated from Marvel Comics' longstanding series, Iron Man puts billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (that's Downey) in the path of some Middle Eastern terrorists; in a brilliantly paced section, Stark invents an indestructible suit that allows him to escape. If the rest of the movie never quite hits that precise rhythm again, it nevertheless offers plenty of pleasure, as the renewed Stark swears off his past as a weapons manufacturer, develops his new Iron Man suit, and puzzles both his business partner (Jeff Bridges in great form) and executive assistant (Gwyneth Paltrow). Director Jon Favreau geeks out in fun ways with the hardware, but never lets it overpower the movie, and there's always a goofy one-liner or a slapstick pratfall around to break the tension. As for Downey, he doesn't get to jitterbug around too much in his improv way, but he brings enough of his unpredictable personality to keep the thing fresh. And listen up, hardcore Marvel mavens: even if you know the Stan Lee cameo is coming, you won't be able to guess it until it's on the screen. It all builds to a splendid final scene, with a concluding line delivery by Downey that just feels absolutely right. --Robert Horton

Great entertainment November 7, 2008 As a fan of superhero movies, I have been a happy man recently. The quality of these movies has increased massively over the past few years. The Dark Knight, Spiderman and Hulk movies are great improvements on previous efforts.... can Iron Man keep up... OH YES! Watched this last night on my brand new 1080p TV and was blown away with the picture quality... amazing. Then you have the film itself. Sets up the character brilliantly, I really like Stark the playboy, and you are really convinced with his epiphany. With good performances from all the actors, great special effects and CGI that is not obvious, this made for a very entertaining 2 hours. Even sets you up for an exciting sequel..... a must buy for super hero movie fans, especially on Blu Ray
The perfect blockbuster... November 3, 2008 and the perfect comic book movie. Iron man had a hard job this summer a little known Marvel character in his first movie, released in a summer of great comic book movies (The Dark Knight, The incredible Hulk and Hellboy 2 The Golden Army}for anyone who knows the character of Tony Stark{Iron man)I dont need to explain how great the casting of Robert Downey jnr was, he simply is tony stark, jnr has a great dryness to his humour and sarcasm that really works with this character. The rest of the cast include Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard and gwyneth Paltrow. The plot of the movie is fairly straightforward Tony Stark ceo of weapons manufacturer Stark Industries, travels to a warzone to sell his latest creation while there he gets abducted by hostiles and during the attack is severly injured, the hostiles try to force stark to build his latest weapon for there use, Stark instead designs a suit strong enough to break him out of his prison. fairly straightforward on paper however this summer you would be hard pressed to find 2 hours of fun like this, you genuinly can sense the directors passion for this character and how much work has gone into translating this faithfully from comic book to silver screen, as is made very evident through the superb special features. if you like comic book movies or intelligent blockbusters you must have this cant recommend this enough
Great film October 31, 2008 Iron Man is in my opinion the best comic book film released this year. Downey Jnr is fantastic as Tony Stark, the script is never dull or boring or overlong, the special effects are very convincing. The Blu-ray is excellent as well, with many extras including the documentary "I Am Iron Man", which is one of the most detailed behind the scenes documentaries I've seen, and the picture and sound on the film is very good. Overall I recommend you buy this superb Blu-ray.
Beginning of something special October 30, 2008 There's no need for me to tell you that this was 1 of the most successful superhero film this year. Dominated the box office & for once that girls seems to enjoy (according to statistics). Anyway, for those of you who didn't know, this movie ties along with `The Incredible Hulk', but this film is supposed to take place BEFORE `TIH', dunno why they released it here backwards.
Speaking of `The Incredible Hulk', `Iron Man' is equally, if not better, good as the green monster movie.
The movie has humour, action, terrific visual effects (making a bloke in a metal suit doesn't seem ridiculously impossible, but believable) & of course a good story. Now I'm not going into what the plot is about (as you may already know it or the fact you can read from dozens of other reviews which makes mine more repetitive), I'm more focusing on the features of the Blu-ray.
- Hall of Armour - Detailed look at 'Iron Man' (Mark 1 - 3) & 'Iron Monger' suit. - The Invincible Iron Man - 47mins documentary on 'Iron Man's history & origin (comic book) - 11 Deleted/extended scenes - BDlive. - I am Iron Man - 149mins of making/production of `Iron Man' - Wired: The visual effects of Iron Man - self explanatory, seeing the CGI of `Iron Man', where we follow 3 visual effects company as each to their own creates different part of `Iron Man' e.g. 1 focuses on Mark I suit design & another on Mark II & it's vision. This lasts for 27mins. - The actor's process - Robert Downey Jr. & Jeff Bridges rehearsing/discussing a scene. This is over 4mins. - The onion "wildly popular Iron Man trailer to be adopted into full-length film" - to be blatantly honest, this is kinda the worst feature on the Blu-ray, it's basically a mocking joke of fans who loved the movie trailer but are concerned that the film will suck. I'm not sure they based this on a true story (as in real people who felt that the film will disappoint & preferred just the trailers), but you can easily tell it's a fake news report. This lasts over 2mins. - Theatrical trailers - 4 trailers: a teaser, a theatrical trailer & 2 international trailers. - Galleries - 4 types: concept art, tech, unit photography & posters.
My only complaint about the features is that it doesn't have audio commentary; I was so expecting that Jon Favreau at least do a solo commentary for the film, but nothing. That's disappointing. Otherwise this is a great Blu-ray to add to your collection.
good film good blu-ray transfer October 28, 2008 bought this on blu-ray today, haddn't seen the film before but am pleased I got it, really good action flick, not to be taken to seriously and as long as you watch the film with this in mind you will like it.
The blu-ray transfer is good.. I don't think it is as good as some people are saying, but still, Its not a bad transfer by any means and hopefully now blu-ray is becoming more mainstream we will see the end to lousey transfers alltogether :)
