1 out of 5 stars You can do better than MCAfee   November 9, 2008

I've used MCAfee internet suites before and I can honestly say that I will never again. When installed they do not do a good enough job in my opinion. I use Windows Live onecare and PC Tools spyware doctor and this combination has been second to none.

3 out of 5 stars Not the best internet security suite I have tried   October 16, 2008
Internet security suites are all the rage at the moment as we worry about cyber-criminals just waiting for us to let our online guard down for a moment. This contains the usual stuff, anti-virus, firewall etc and McAfee is a big name in the field.
Having said that, it took ages to install this package on my laptop (Windows XP SP2) and once there, it took ages for me to tweak the various bits and bobs to get it working properly. I would recommend the AVG product which I have also reviewed for Amazon Vine over this product. It installed far more quickly, and didn't have as much of a slowing down effect on my system as this one.

4 out of 5 stars shifting blame on each other   October 9, 2008

I have installed McAfee Security Suite 2008 on my Windows Vista Home Premium Dell Computer. I am getting Windows Security Allert that Virus Protection is not found on this Computer. When I reported this to McAfee, I was told to take some steps among which was to rename repository. Eventhough I was running as Administrator, I was not able to rename repository receiving "Access Denied". When I reported this to McAfee, I was told to go to Microsoft. When I reported this to Microsoft, I was told that they could not help me in third party software. This being McAfee product, McAfee should help me. But they do not. Each one is shifting responsibility on the other.

1 out of 5 stars Trusting McAfee lost us our hard drive   October 1, 2008

We have used the multi-licence McAfee Security Suite for several years now on several PCs. Everything seemed to be working fine, although it did seem to slow down all PCs that it was run on significantly. However, today we have received a virus through a hardware firewall and McAfee Security Suite with no warning resulting in a wiped hard drive and loss of all data (luckily we have a back-uip!) We have been advised by a local computer expert that McAfee and Norton are programmes living on their trade name and have been recommended to use Kaspersky or F-Secure as the top two alternatives. ALso, don't fall into the McAfee auto-renewal trap as mentioned by other reviewers previously; they auto-renew your subscription at least four weeks early!

3 out of 5 stars Tracker cookies   September 11, 2008

If you want a scanner that finds tracker cookies then this is not for you - doesn't look for them so doesn't find them. Better to go for something like AVG or adaware which are free and do the job.
