DO NOT BUY ANY AVG PRODUCTS. November 5, 2008 I have only given this one star because I am not sure it can have no stars on this review. But that's what they deserve. Don't buy this or any other AVG product. Their customer service is non existant; no one on the other end of the phone, no one on the other end of the emails. This, once loaded, has crashed my browser, I have no access to the internet and no one has even tried to help me despite my numerous pleading messages. I have unloaded it and read all the 'facts' and help pages on the website and then re-loaded it and tried to sort it out and still no joy. I am trying to get my money back. Suffice to say I am furious!
would not recommend it October 19, 2008 Having tried almost every kind of popular anti-virus software from Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton to Bitdefender, i thought will give this one a try. Installation went OK, running on Win XP Home ed. SP3. The interface is nice, easy to manage, and not so many misleading settings and menus. Updating is done automatically, which is nothing new really, any self-respecting anti-virus software offers this feature now, and some of them like BD do it on an hourly basis. The dilemma for me started when I had some files zipped as a SSX archive, which means that they will unzip on another computer that does not necessarily have an unzipping software. These files have an .exe file extension. For AVG however, this was not acceptable, and when I did a system scan, it started to give me warnings about these files, I chose the Ignore option, thinking that it would actually do that. The disaster is that it did not really ignore them, and the files became totally useless, could not open them, or rename or even reopen with winrar (which was used to create them), so all files were totally lose. This has never happened with any other anti-virus. Another thing, sometimes the automatic protection is not loaded right, and i had to do that manually many times. Not the best security suite out there, and would not recommend it. I would stick with Bitdefender as so far it has proven to be the best.
Do Not Buy October 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased AVG after having the 7 version with hassle free problems. Upon loading this I kept getting a dialogue box saying to register your number online to which I did and everytime I logged on this dialogue box kept coming up asking to register. It then end it wiped off part of my AVG and I have now resorted to taking off AVG and have wasted money as you cannot reinstall AVG once you have taken it off. I will not be buying this again.
No support when things go wrong August 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had this AVG licence for almost 2 years. Error messages occurred shortly after the upgrade from v7.5 to v8.0. Emailed customer support - no response except an automatic email referring me to FAQ's - which I'd already spent time checking. Poor service. I won't renew my licence
This is a fantastic buy. August 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For security, AVG is "TOPS".To cut a long story short. I bought a new laptop which had McAfee security on it, after 6 months it caught a virus, so I changed to Norton, but still coudn't get it sorted out. I was pulling my hair out, when a PC technician suggested AVG, so I installed. Fantastic, it cleared my laptop with the first test, I have never looked back. This package is for three PC's for 2 years, and works out at about 4 quid for each computer per year, and the service is great, new virus checks are made each morning after I switch on, and I have had no trouble whatsoever. A fantastic buy, and a fantastic security. BUY IT AND INSTALL IT, you won't be sorry.
