Amazon.co.uk Review Nero 6 is the latest incarnation of Ahead Software's highly acclaimed CD and DVD burning package. Installation is straightforward and once everything is loaded it's clear that Nero 6 has moved forward considerably from earlier versions. For day-to-day burning duties there are Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express with the latter being aimed at beginners compared to the full control afforded by the former. There isn't much new here although the user interface has been tweaked and updated and now looks nice and contemporary. The major change with Nero 6 is the vast number of extra tools provided. Everything is run via a configurable start screen. Nero Vision Express 2 is designed for movie authoring. While not as fully featured as Pinnacle Studio 8 it still provides all you need to get home movies edited and saved for posterity. Related to this is ShowTime, an excellent DVD player easily as good as other software-based ones you can buy separately. For backup duties there is BackItUp. Although basic, it does allow disk-spanning compression and scheduling even if the interface is a little frustrating at times. Other tools include a nice wave editor for sound files, a good cover designer for CD cases and Nero Mix for MP3 playing and ripping. Nero 6 is a great set of tools and utilities and offers excellent value for money. Existing users will have to consider the worth of the latest extras but new users will find a rich set of applications for all their CD and DVD needs. And unlike many of its peers, Nero 6 doesn't keep connecting to the Internet, which is good for those who prefer more control of their privacy. --Iain Laskey

Failed install, poor support and no refunds... June 19, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I encountered problems with the Nero product from the start. After the installation failed, I contacted support for help. When I did get the program loaded, it failed to work and gave me a cryptic error message. When I contacted support, I was ignored. When I asked for a refund, I was told by their sales person, Simone Reich (Nero Sales), that the act of downloading and installing the program prevented them from providing a refund. He was even kind enough (sic) to refer me to their legal department.
I'll never recommend or buy their software again.
complete rubbish June 15, 2005 20 out of 27 found this review helpful
How do they sell this product? The interface is almost entirely counter intuitive and on top of that it regularly hangs. The most tell tale sign of crap software is when you try to uninstall it. It pretends to go but then leaves the .exe running in the background and that's after a uninstall and reboot! Eventually had to restore my XP to previous day. Nero makes a simple thing like making a CD into a nighmare. Don't buy it. I thought Pinnacle InstantCD was bad but Nero makes it look like sliced bread.

First off do not get a cheap deal why no box no DVD they sell O.E.M copys so that means buy new burner you get O.E.M copy with it waste of money all you get is a disc thats it and some places sell them for a couple of pounds they can be upgraded via nero web site if you pay nero prices in U.S dont buy themas for nero still the best
IN CD 4 versus IN CD 3 - binning CD-RW discs March 5, 2004 38 out of 55 found this review helpful
Just to counter the review from a software user in portsmouth, or somewhere close. You do not need to 'bin' your CD-RW discs just because you've upgrade to Nero 6 / IN CD 4. If you need the data on the discs, first uninstall Nero 6 and re-install Nero 5 / IN CD 3. Then copy the data off onto your hard drive. Uninstall Nero 5 / IN CD 3 and install Nero 6 / IN CD 4, then erase the CD-RW's using Nero 6, and format them using IN CD 4. Bingo, fully working CD-RW's again, to which you can re-copy the data you temporarily stored on your hard drive. If you don't need the data, just erase them in Nero 6 and re-format them using IN CD 4. Incidently you do realise that you do not need to use IN CD with CD-RW discs ? You can just burn CD-RW discs as an open multi session CD, and keep adding information to them by re-burning another session. Only finalising the CD when it becomes completely full. This is distinctly more reliable than using the somewhat unreliable IN CD in either version 3 or 4. At least as an open multi session CD, you can read the CD-RW in practically any modern CD drive. IN CD formatted CD-RW's are notoriously fussy about being read on CD drives which aren't the one on which they were formatted !!
