Too Scary for Small Children October 10, 2002 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I would not recommend this for very young children - had a bad experience with my young child (3 yrs) when it came to the wolf scene - it is quite strong for 'sensitive' toddlers though I dare say the bolder of the variety might enjoy it. I'd recommend that you don't take the chance (unless you have a very wordly toddler on your hands) and spend your money on something written with children, rather than parents, in mind.
Big bad and very Scary Wolf June 10, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Almost everything about this CD would encourage me to recommend it. From the beginning there are choices to make about how the story proceeds, so the children have a choice of versions. There are lots of clickable items, the operator choosing different routes for the pigs to take through the beautifully illustrated forest - working out how hard the wolf must blow to knock down the houses, and how even the houses are built again clicking on the different materials in sequence. There is lots of happy music playing when all is going well for the three piggies - but when the wolf appears - boy is he scary! And believe me he scares the pants off both my boys, (3 and 5)who come rushing out of the room howling, so I always have to sit with them when they use this CD - big drawback!
NOT for pre-schoolers February 21, 2002 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have been impressed by many of DK's products, both books and CD-ROMs. But I have to say that I found this CD-ROM entirely inappropriate for a child. The graphics used to depict the wolf, the storyline and the sound effects, were all far too disturbing, scary and carried the threat of violence (it may actually get violent later, I don't know as I did not want my daughter to see it any more). There is nothing whatsoever on the packaging to warn you about this - on the contrary it is described as "a delightful cast of beautifully animated woodland creatures" or "ages 4-6".
a very BAaaaaD wolf February 17, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a fabulous CD. a favourite story with lovely graphics, great soundtrack, and lots of interest. My four year old needs me to sit with him on account of the most incredibly scary wolf... is it really necessary to have such terrible monster? However he creeps back from behind the sofa to continue. The pigs have to pass various obstacles and need to answer questions, cross rivers or build houses to proceed. By clicking and listening it is easy to follow. there is lots to discover and my 9 and 11 year old found it pretty amusing too. I would recommend it wholeheartedly, except that wolf is a bit worrying...
What a ride! August 5, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Three little pigs, I originally saw in French (the original publisher was in France) and was awsomely scary - big growls and gutteral belches. DK have toned it down somewhat although they have been faithful to the tale - embellishing with additional little characters which my son imitates - a frog, hedgehog, mole and two birds. The activities surrounding small sections of the product (how to find a tool to cross the river etc.) often take up quite a lot of time - very enjoyably - and have kept my son riveted again and again.A brilliant English version - what a shame that DK is stopping production of their world leading software.
