3 out of 5 stars basic Welsh   February 26, 2004

This is very good as a start to help learn pronouciations which are quite tricky. It has a lot of words and a few phrases but you don't come away with any idea how to construct a sentence.

Definitely a good and fun way to start

4 out of 5 stars Rreview of 'Learn Welsh'   January 22, 2004

This is certainly the way to start learning Welsh. Not only can you see the item but you can practice speaking it by using your microphone to record the word and play it back. This is great, but the range of words is limited. For instance the numbers do not go higher than 20. I'd recommend this for a beginner.

Good learn welsh CD Rom, especially for beginners as it includes fun games. However, beware, if you have a 2002 + version of Windows XP it will not run without an Indeo Video Player (which you can buy online).

5 out of 5 stars Talk Now Welsh - It's great!   September 4, 2001

I wanted to learn Welsh but the evening class was at the wrong time so I bought this CD Rom instead- I'm glad I did. I learnt lots of words and phrases - to read and say. In just 3 days I had earned enough points to get a gold award! The games are great fun, the recording phase is great - you can compare your pronunciation with the real one and see how good or bad you really are. I can't speak Welsh yet but I can understand lots of common words. I've now ordered World Talk Welsh I can't wait for it to come. If it's as good as Talk Now I'll be talking Welsh very soon!

5 out of 5 stars Diolch yn fawr!   April 1, 2001

Until I found this software, I could have had NO idea of how to pronounce the above phrase. You see, the speaking/listening bit of language learning is very different from the reading/writing bit.

Hence, many years after French A-Level, I can still read and write French (with the aid of a dictionary) - but I'm hopeless at actually speaking it!

This software is good, because all the repetition that happens with the games mean that you absorb words and sounds almost effortlessly - I found myself being surprised at the words that I knew.

The recording bit is excellent, too - you can compare your pronunciation with that blonde girl who has a very warm, sexy accent and wiggles her shoulders (?)so appealingly.

(Shame the bloke isn't so sexy).

For a complete beginner and Sais, the main problem is - just how DO you pronounce all those lls, us and ys?

Use this and you'll find out, painlessly!

Very good confidence builder, but won't teach you the grammar. (But you can get THAT from a book).

NB The accent is apparently South Wales!

Looking forward to Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx...
