3 out of 5 stars Kensington Mini USB HUB   October 26, 2008
I will briefly express my experience with this product. This USB is good for the price, works without problem (installation not required: start working as you stick it). The downside of this product is that it has not have any extension cord/cable (the cable is as long as you see it on this picture about 3cm, so that the four ports are hanging in the air of my desktop: for the laptop users, this may be ok, if you don't require longer cable). In addition, one of the ports(it has four) started not working after two month of usage (now been using for 6months). I will give it 3stars for above reasons. Overall though, it is a decent product, at reasonable price.

4 out of 5 stars Kensington mini USB hub   August 26, 2008

Good value considering the low price. The ports are close together, but I have found it very useful to connect a mouse, wireless adapter and speakers therefore freeing up two more of the laptop ports. I have had no need for a power adaptor, but then I have only made modest demands on it. As a basic hub at a low price it functions well.

1 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmm   August 7, 2008

Useless item. Says it will only cope small temporary devices like memory pens. Oh and you need to use slot 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 if you want to insert more than one as the ports are very close together.

Would not detect my camera, mp3 player (bog standard 2GB one), and a memory pen attached.... as for the 3rd port well I could fit nothing in it. I could get 2 of the items recognised when I removed one of the others.

Not impressed. I only bought the thing as the front USBs on my system are becoming a tad loose and I don't want them completely knackered. I will look for a decent product by Belkin and give this piece of junk 4portthub away to some other poor sod.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent little device for the money   June 18, 2008

Received this today, plugged it in, was recongised as a "new device" and installed itself. Then simply plugged in a webcam, iPod, scanner and Blackberry. Possibly this overloaded it a tad as the scanner did not seem to kick in (I noted previous reviews about power consumption - you can buy separately an external power supply to connect to the device if you wish), however when I removed the Blackberry I could scan, transfer files to the iPod and watch myself on the webcam. Highly unlikely that I would use more than 2 devices at the same time so it does exactly what I want it to, i.e. save me having to relentlesly unplug and re-plug in devices to my USB ports.

Would have liked a longer cable (only a couple of centimeters) but considering the cost, I think this device is very well worth the money - it was delivered in 2 days, so very quick service too.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - power adapter may be needed   April 29, 2008

Sorry I have to disagree with previous reviewers this product is useless.

I bought this USB pocket hub to connect a mouse, printer and external hard drive to my Compaq Evo notebook, except often the notebook does not recognise that one or more of these items is connected. After wasting several hours plugging in and unplugging cables I emailed Kensington Europe's customer support for their advice and they replied:

"Thank you for your inquiry. You need a powered hub. The USBport only delivers 5Volts at 500mA. If you add too many devices to your USBport there are no sufficient resources to supply all the devices with enough power and therefore your devices are not being recognised. Do you have a connector socket on the hub, so that an adapter can be inserted? We hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction. Should you have further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us again."

I replied to them, asking for the price and part number of the power supply but my email bounced back with the message that the email address didn't exist.

What is the point of having four USB sockets on a product if it can't cope with having three items plugged in. This is pathetic!
