5 out of 5 stars Funny looking thing, but offered fantastic control   April 27, 2008
In 2008, this is perhaps the most random review ever.. The N64 controller. But hell, i'm bored! As with anything N64 related, its too easy to get carried away back to those teen memories in the nineties, so I find myself bullet-pointing the most important parts...

Positives:

- The ergonomic design; no controller has ever been designed like this.
- The analog stick is perfectly placed, allowing real precision because it's right under your thumb, and you don't need to stretch for it.
- The Z button was also right under the analog stick section, allowing for better control.
- Nice innovation with the 'C' button section; a seclusion of small, yellow buttons that usually account for settings during gameplay, or camera angles.
- Cool range of colours!
- Built to last! Very hard wearing

Negatives:

- The D Pad on the left is horribly flat and stiff. Luckily, it was never needed!
- L and R buttons probably need more spring.

Aside from the GameCube controller, this tops my list of favourite controllers.

4 out of 5 stars Well It Was A Bit Of A Hassle, But I'm Used To It Now That I Know How To Use It!   January 29, 2007

Excitement was in my eyes when I first got my Nintendo 64! And all I wanted to do was whip on Super Mario 64 and play it endlessly. Although, I had one problem! How and what positions do I hold the controller?!

The Nintendo 64 Controller was probably the most difficult controller I've ever had to experience as unlike all the other controllers I know, it has three holding positions.

You mostly had to hold the middle one and the one on the right to play games. But some games, which require you to use the D-Pad, recommend you to use the left and the right holding positions of the controller!
I didn't know this because when I was young I didn't really read instruction manuals (I do now before I play a new game but who did in the past anyways?), so I was a bit frequent at holding the left and right side of the controllers. This quite often, made my left hand quite sore.

In fact, I remembered one time I had to rotate the joystick as fast as I can on Mario Party 1 and I cut myself and the joystick made a large skin cut through the centre of my right hand! I learnt my lesson and watched my friends and brothers using the Nintendo 64 controller, which allowed me to learn to use it the more traditional way!

The Nintendo 64 controller has a total of 15 Buttons (22 Buttons if you include all the D-Pad and all 8 corners on the Joysticks!)

My Grade For The Controller: 7.5/10 - Great, Entertaining, Challenging!

My Wish: I adore the Nintendo 64 guys from the Nintendo Land, but can you please make you're controllers less complicated. I don't really want to get injured again!

Final Comments: Remember you're finger positioning on controllers and if you're uncomfortable, hold it in a more satisfying position or get an alternative controller. Don't do the same thing as what I did and make the controller cut through your skin!

5 out of 5 stars the best ever!!!   May 2, 2006
This is in my opinion the BEST ever controller out of any console including todays!!!! Brilliant position of the buttons, especially the z trigger and an excellent idea of the analouge stick which Sony and Sega and Microsoft have all copied since then and the feel is just comfortable to hold in yours hands with at least 3 different ways to use it (holding)! I hope they release this as a 2nd controller for the Nintendo Wii (Revolution)!

3 out of 5 stars Price is High   November 5, 2001

First, I bought a Nintendo 64 for playing. Because I needed two controller 64 I searched the Internet to find a controller. This price totally disappointed me. I admit that The controller is good quality, the touch and everything, the feel was great. But the Problem is still there THE PRICE. I must admit that you might not get it cheaper unless you buy it second hand. But I know that this Price is a bit too high. I am going to buy this in future, but I hope that it will get cheaper. The 3 stars were not 5 because of the high price-

It is a controller. It is blue. It handles excellently. It is blue. It was made by Nintendo, therefore it must be the best. It is blue. It has the best, original design. And last, but not least, it is blue.
