RJ45 connection. January 5, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this item only to find that my modem has a BT connection as opposed to an RJ45 connection so it isn't any use to me. It isn't therefore compatible with all modems which wasn't made clear in the product description and for a computer novice like myself with limited technical knowledge it would have been helpful to know that.
Very good product January 4, 2009 This great product has given us a really reliable wired online connection with the wii for games like Animal Crossing City Folk and MarioKart. Initially I bought a crossover cable and tried to connect it through my PC but had a bit of trouble with setting up a network for it to work on my PC. So I rang AOL and asked for an upgrade to a router (as I only had an old modem despite being a customer for almost 10 years they don't give you anything unless you ask...or threaten to leave!) Since then it's worked perfectly through connecting it from the new router to the Wii. I'm going to keep this adapter even when I set up wireless as it's more reliable. Has a nice flashing blue light when active too! Would recommend.
Works perfectly through homeplug January 2, 2009 Our wireless signal is patchy, so I bought a Netgear homeplug set to extend our broadband connection to every room in the house. The Datel adapter worked perfectly with it first time. I connected it up while the Wii was shut down, turned it on and set up the wired connection using the instructions that come with the adapter. In the space of less than a couple of minutes I was online.
The supplied cable works fine, although it's not very long. But ethernet cables are easy to get hold.
Good product, but check your setup October 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
30 for USB WiFi or 10 for cabled version so a no-brainer. I was caught out by the free patch cable as I assumed it would be an extension cable (i.e. LAN connection one end and USB the other), but it wasn't (it has a LAN connection both ends). As my LAN lead reaches to within 5 feet of the Wii but my computer doesn't I have had to use a USB extension cable as well. My setup is therefore:
Wii <--> USB extension <--> Wii LAN adapter <--> Router
With the USB extension I managed to get it working, but only after several attempts. As a suggestion, follow these basic steps to get connected:
- turn off Wii - turn off modem / router - attach Wii LAN adapter to Wii (via USB extension if necessary) - attach LAN cable to Wii LAN adapter - turn on router and let it go through its full start-up cycle - turn on Wii - then follow setup instructions sent out with Wii LAN adapter
Hope this helps and that you enjoy Wii online as much as I'm doing.
Works Fine September 11, 2008 This Lan Adater is simple to set up Make Sure your wii is off when your installing it and it comes with a ethernet cable too which is handy as i wasted 1 trying to make a cable like this PLEASE NOTE: dont try and buy a blue usb to ethernet as i got from a computer store and it didnt work so make sure its compattible for your wii ALSO it seems a lot faster than wireless for instance on mario kart with wireless it took ages to connect then it would drop as with this its so much quicker and it hasnt dropped connection...YET! so if your looking for a more faster, relialible connection for your wii then this is ideal thing fot you!
