Ridiculously Addictive December 1, 2008 I am hooked to this game. The other reviews go into the nitty gritty, so all i can say is beware of becoming addicted to it. Everytime you see a chink of light when you crack that track which you've been struggling with, or get to 9000K on the wi-fi, or simply unlock Funky Kong makes it all sooo worth it.
The internet racing is the icing on the cake with this, i highly recommend it. Though you may find wi-fi racers are perhaps a lot more vicous and aggressive than racing against the computer - you may reveal a more sly and manipulative drive to win in yourself, who knows... It's all fun though.
This should be as necessary as the wii remote.
If you've got a wii ...I recommend you buy it [and before this i disliked racing games!...you see it's just so much more than a "racing game."]
Happy gaming :)
Mario kary wheyyyyyyyyyy! November 29, 2008 I was sceptical of the wheel and how it would work with the game, I thought it would be a novelty and would be annoying to use.
I was wrong.
The wheel is fantastic. I am not a fan of racing games, however, this was easy to play and quick to learn the controls. Mario and friends as always look fantastic on the screen (and I love being able to play as my Mii) as do the tracks! There are some tracks from previous games and some new ones, all fun to play and some harder than others - the frustrating times when you fall off the edge of rainbow road into the abyss!!!
However, where this game comes into its own is online!! Its fantastic! I love coin runners, a game where you are split into two teams and have to collect as many coins as possible. You are playing with people from all over the world, and it is kid friendly too, so you can leave your children to play it without worrying about strangers! I have spent hours on this game, with my battle and race scores going up and down (more often down), and it can get addictive - one more race then i will stop!
I urge all wii owners to buy this game, it is fantastic for parties and all ages can pick it up and play!
How you can get this for a Fiver November 29, 2008 Christmas is coming so save your cash! Why purchase something you can get for a fiver.

Fantastic family fun November 25, 2008 I received Mario Kart for my birthday last month (Oct 2008). Since receiving it, it has without a shadow of a doubt been the most played game on our Wii! Even my 3 year old asks almost daily if he can play on 'Mummy's racing car game'!
This is not a game for the serious, hardcore gamer. It is for someone (or better still a group of people) who just want to have a bit of fun. Play it with the Wii wheel for the most laughs - if you are taking it to seriously and want to use the nunchuck for better control you don't really get the concept of this game, do you?
For young children it is quite hard to play, and very disheartening for them when they come last all the time.... we found that our 3 year old was excited to play it - but soon handed over the wheel so that you could finish it for him. BUT we then tried having a go at the time trials instead - BIG success! He can just take it nice and slowly and work on learning how to steer the kart without the other players around or the worry of picking up boxes. And even better, when the ghost data is saved he can 'race' himself the next time round!
The main Grand Prix game is good fun individually if you have a few licences set up and you're trying to see who in your family/friends groupcan get the most gold cups. However, the best mode is without a doubt the multiplayer modes. Racing with friends or family is great fun and very social.
The ability to connect to the internet and play with other people worldwide is brilliant too. I've discovered that I am nowhere near as good as I thought I was and it has definitely made me want to practice a bit more! It's good too that you have the option to connect with friends - quite a nice feeling to be racing pople you know without having to make your house presentable for them to come around and play!!!
What do I recommend to get the most out of this game? You definitely need at least 1 more controller AND wheel (currently less than 6 on Amazon - cheapst place to get a genuine Wii wheel). You also need a sense of humour and a not-to-serious attitude to gaming.
Have lots of fun playing this! And if anyone knows how to complete Rainbow Road without falling off the course once please let me know!!!
