Amazon.co.uk Review As Pikmin's stranded, miniature spaceperson Olimar, you must find the missing 30 parts your spaceship needs to get you back home; these parts are scattered across a forested area that is crowded with giant (when compared to our hero's size) animals and other hazards. Olimar stumbles across the part animal, part plant, all bizarre creatures he names Pikmin, and will have to learn how to lead the Pikmin around the forest as he uses the abilities of the different coloured creatures to overcome the many obstacles in his path. Learning when and how to make the best use of your Pikmin's skills and traits is the essence of the game. You can control up to 100 Pikmin at a time while figuring out which are best suited for a particular task. Some are better fighters, while others can survive in water or handle explosive bomb rocks. However, even the best Pikmin herder will have to sacrifice a few of the plant-headed beasts for the greater good. It's this constant need to refine and create strategies to minimise losses that makes Pikmin challenging and always fun. For a first generation GameCube title, the graphics, sounds, and music are fantastic and show an awesome amount of detail. Though it's no Pokemon, this game should an appeal to wide-eyed younger gamers as well as seasoned veterans. The controls are intuitive and feel perfect for the standard GameCube controller; however, learning to position the camera can be a tad frustrating during some of the more tense moments, as it has only a few magnification levels and needs constant adjustment. The biggest obstacle you face is time; you have only 30 days (each day is about 15 minutes in real time) in which to find the necessary parts. While this keeps the pace of the game up, some may find such limits to be somewhat frustrating, as it means there will be a lot of repetition and rethinking of strategy. It also means that diligent gamers may find Pikmin to be rather a short game. At the end of your gaming day, though, Pikmin is one of the best games the GameCube will have for quite some time. --Mark Brooks

One of the only games i will rate 5 stars for! July 4, 2008 This game IS what the gamecube is remembered for! and now it has the chance of a second lease of life from people playing in on the Wii. I have never come across a game like this before. The graphics are fantastic and i love the little touches with the Pikmin noises! although the noise they make as they drown or get burnt by fire is a little heartbreaking!. At times it can be frustrating as you realise you have navigated your way across a tough terrian to find one of the ships parts but havent got enough Pikmin to carry it back! *whoomph* thats the sound of throwing the controller on the floor!. You HAVE to try this game out. Its cute, clever and crazy! you will fall in love with the little Pikmins as they follow you round wide eyed and theres plenty of humour as you go along but also some challenging puzzles to keep you on your toes. If you finish this game you can move on to Pikmin 2....
Brilliant innocent game for all ages. January 3, 2007 A really cute game for kids to adults(i loved it). It is so addictive i got Pikmin 2 straight after i finished it. it has a lovely story and stuff to collect so that you can take off in your damaged space ship again. It really gets your brain working too as all the pikmin work together and you have to keep them safe. The best gamecube game that i have ever played!
Pikmin is fantastic. November 17, 2006 Pikmin should be the saviour of Nintendo. While games like this are being produced, I see no reason not to support them. Pikmin is fun, engaging, and easy to play, without being overly simple. The graphics, creatures, and puzzles are practically flawless, and my only qualm with the game is it's perhaps lack of longevity. There is limited replay value (although there is some) and the career does not take a particularly long time to figure out. Challenge mode is a welcome addition, although by no means the best thing about this game. However, for the amount of enjoyment you will receive from playing, Pikmin is a worthy investment, as is its sequel.
I'd probably give it 90%, for the innate fun of playing this game, but no more because of its slightly short lifespan.
Amazing classic by nintendo! May 3, 2006 Pikmin. Pikmin is a great game which i got a long time ago and i still havnt got bored of it.I love this game because of the fantastic storyline and because of the great about of play value.I realy love this game and i think its well worth the money! *************************buy it!*************************
You'll Need More Than A Brain To Complete This Strategy Game!! April 14, 2006 I first rented this game for a week back in February 2003, only for the fact that I wanted to get game data so that I could get the Captain Olimar Trophy in Super Smash Bros Melee! But when that week passed I found out that the game was actually a little entertaining than I expected, so I decided to buy it!
It was actually an interesting game because unlike certain games, you had to plan out and think of what to do step by step! It even attracted my brother's attention to getting this game for his birthday!
The story is simple, but easier said than done! You are Captain Olimar and you've crashed landed on an Unknown Planet, which has a toxic gas you are allergic to codenamed... Oxygen, and your life support will only last 30 days (not in our days of life but in the game days). You also discover that your Rocket Ship is severely damaged and roughly 30 pieces of your ship have vanished, 25 of which are vital and must be recovered in order for you to get back to your home world... Planet Hocotate!
So, this is where you come in. It's up to you to help Captain Olimar recover the 30 Parts within 30 Days! To help you on your quest, you'll discover weird species you will call... The Pikmin. These unknown types of species are basically a flower dub, combined with a carrot and have the ability to communicate and help civilians in critical situations! There are three types of coloured Pikmins! There are the Red Pikmin's whom attack fear sly and are invulnerable towards fire! The Yellow coloured Pikmin whom of which can reach higher destinations if thrown and carry bombs! And finally the Blue coloured Pikmin whom have the ability to travel through water as well as rescuing other Pikmin from drowning in the water! With you and the Pikmin, you will create a destructive team whom must fight creatures, bugs, flowers, monsters, birds, plants and fearsome villains to claim and recover the 30 Parts of the Rocket Ship!!!
Although the game sounds long and entertaining, it is in reality quite short and can get boring time after time, especially when you make a big mistake and you keep on pressing the Reset Button!
I would say to myself that it is so difficult, that I needed a Guidebook to help me complete the game! It took me until August 2004 to finish the game. Only for the fact that the games data takes 19 Blocks on your Memory Card and unless I play the game occasionally, I tend to delete my data! But, since I finished the game, I probably won't be deleting the data in years now!!
My Personal Game Score: 7.5/10 - Great, Entertaining, Challenging!
My Wish: What I find a nuisance is the Game's Data! If you had the 4MB Memory Card for the Gamecube, you would not get much space left on that Memory Card, since this game eats almost of your data! If Nintendo do decide to make Pikmin 3 for Gamecube, could they please make sure the data is at least 15 Blocks or under?
Final Comment: If you are intending to be a Brainiac, Researcher, Wiseman, or even just a Gamer then I recommend you give this a try. If you are unsure about buying this game, rent it for a week like me, and even if you disliked the game, you can still use it's data to get the Captain Olimar Trophy for Super Smash Bros Melee, because as far as I'm concerned, that was my first plan anyway, until I found out that this was actually a good game!!
