4 out of 5 stars woo hoo a decent shooter for the wii !!!!!   January 1, 2009
first of all i got this for a christmas present along a few other wii games, when i started playing it the graphics were great and the gameplay was excellent. the wii seemed to really excel in the gameplay.

but towards the end of the game i could tell that the developers still had a few bugs to iron out. for instance some times the wii remote seems to completely ignore you and turn your soldier into a spinning top on the screen. unfourtunately the germans seem to hate this and instantly cut you up with bullets, which doesn't help.

also occasionly the game freezes, this has only happend to me once but i was right at the end of a mission. this really annoyed me because i had to do it all again.

but apart from that this game really is fantastic, the gameplay is incredible and the graphics are commendable. the graphics in the clips are definetely xbox 360 standard and i was impressed. the story is also fantastic, you play as the americans, the british, the canadians and the polish. each have diffferent weapons and tactics. they each have their own character to. for instance the british have a major who i can just imagine sipping tea and saying cricket.

overall this is a fantastic game and i definetly reccomned, it is one of the first decent shooters for the wii, it has a decent length and great gameplay. if you can just be patient then this game is fantastic.

3 out of 5 stars A cheap blast   July 10, 2008

I bought this just recently very cheaply (13 brand new) and if you ignore the flaky control system, it's basically a very good involving first person warshooter. Compared to medal of honor this was much more fun, with varied missions - the tank driving in particular was really atmospheric - although I cant find out how to replay that mission?
I can understand some reviewers getting frustrated with some of the control issues, but these don't really spoil the game, just be patient.

Firstly let me say that I'm a huge COD fan having all versions for the PC, but this Wii version of COD3 is virtually unplayable even on the easiest setting. The nunchuck/remote control is incredibly difficult to master and simple tasks like negotiating a doorway become a chore. But that's nothing compared to the hand-to-hand fighting scenarios that are quite physically demanding and generally result in frustration. I even bought a Wii 'Zapper' in the hope it would steady basic movement which it does slightly but not to an acceptable level. Another downside is the lenghty video intros at each level which can't be skipped and become tedious when resuming a game. It's a real shame because the storyline looks pretty good and I'm sure the XBox & PS3 versions are fine. Why couldn't they just release a PC version..?

So the bottom line in my opinion is don't waste you money. I've now moved on to COD4 PC (which is excellent) without bothering to finish this one - life's too short...

4 out of 5 stars Call of duty, Wii remote   November 22, 2007

Overall this game is great, there aren't many WWII games out there better; and I would suggest you buy it.

The only draw back this title present on the Wii is the remote, is it the make or the break of the game. Well its both the remote adds that feel of realism to what is all to the action of shooting that is often too sterile and detached with traditional control. The Wii as in real life requires much more accurate and rapid response to moving targets.
On the downside however and this had me swearing, sometimes the remote responds far too much and puts you in a crazy spin even though you only moved the remote about 5degrees, it often does this without warning and it can take you a few precious seconds to get the spin under control, by which time you have been shot! Also occasionally the remote can be under responsive and you end up getting killed.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but a bit rushed   November 11, 2007

I've had this game since launch but only completed it quite recently because I've been playing other titles in the meantime.

Its actually very well put together and the motion controls work really well. The general Fps action works well and the gestures for rowing boats, driving cars and setting bombs all work superbly. I see a couple of people in previous reviews moaning about the hand to hand combat sections, but I never saw these as a problem at all. If I was in that kind of situation in real life I probably wouldnt move my hands backwards and forwards in a rhythmical way, but as long as you're doing what the game is telling you then it works fine.

The only problem is that its really obvious that its a launch game. Many things appear rushed and there are a few things that are quite sloppy. It seems that by concentrating on getting the controls right, they've missed a few basics out.

For example, near the end of the game it really does lag and slows down quite alot in places. This is really unforgivable as the graphics arent really pushing the Wii at all (it basically looks the same as the PS2 version), and it actually affects the gameplay quite badly because you simply cant move while 100s of German Soldiers are shooting you. You can get around it because it only happens occasionally, but you're guarenteed to die a few times due to this.

The graphics really dont do the Wii justice either. Im not particularly fussed about graphics personally, but all the colours are so drab that it actually makes it quite difficult to spot enemies and sometimes you'll wonder why you have actually died.

Someone complained that the game was a bit short in another review, but I disagree with this. Its no Metroid or Half Life, but its longer than your average fps. Maybe its because the game is split into alot of quite short missions that made it seem unsubstantial to that person. You'll be playing this for a while before its completed though, and the way the story pans out as you take control of American, British, Polish and Canadian forces all links together superbly well. The way the story unfolds is one of the games best features in my opinion.

Overall this is a very solid fps. It doesnt have the jaw dropping graphics the 360 version sold so well on, but it nails the potential of the Wii remote for producing excellent fps's, and bodes well for a sequel or just future fps's on Wii in general. If you can ignore the occasional slowdown, poor graphics and pretty-rare-but-still-there game freezes, then you'll have alot of fun with this. Recommended.
