Product Description The smaller, sleeker version of the original Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DS Lite combines dual screen action with Touch Screen interaction, providing the player with a unique gaming experience. The system also includes wireless communication technology, allowing gamers to join their friends in multiplayer games, or use the system's embedded PictoChat software to send messages and drawings to each other. The Nintendo DS Lite is revolutionising handheld gaming. With two super-sharp, backlit LCD screens, the Nintendo DS Lite offers a groundbreaking new approach to gaming. Each 3-inch screen is capable of producing true 3D graphics; the DS has the power to produce even more advanced visuals than the Nintendo 64 could display. Plus you can adjust the screens' brightness in four different levels to adapt to different lighting conditions. The possibilities are limitless - one screen can be used to show the main action, while another might be used as a map, inventory, or secondary viewpoint - or both screens can be used simultaneously to depict huge boss characters! With a powerful rechargeable lithium ion battery pack and recharger included with every Nintendo DS Lite, the system offers up to 19 hours of play on a single recharge*; so there's no need for additional battery packs. Nintendo DS Lite recharges to full capacity in three hours - one hour less than Nintendo DS. The system also includes a clock, calendar and alarm functions, and you can select other details like the colour of the background screen, your birthday and your nickname. *Nintendo DS Lite battery life is dependent on brightness setting used.
Amazon.co.uk Review In a nutshell: It may have taken the world by storm with its huge range of genuinely innovative new games but there?s no denying that the Nintendo DS is not exactly the most portable of portable consoles. That?s all changed now with this sleek and sexy update. The lowdown: When the Nintendo DS was first announced it was dismissed by many as a white elephant ? with a gimmicky interface and underpowered graphics. Over 15 million sales later and the story is a little different. The DS Lite is fully compatible with all existing Nintendo DS (and Game Boy Advance) games but it?s smaller, sleeker and lighter ? with a new design that perfectly matches the Nintendo Wii console. The most impressive feature is the new backlit screens which offer the sharpest image ever seen on a portable console. The DS Lite is available in three separate colours: White, Black and Pink. Most exciting feature: The DS Lite now has four brightness settings ? the highest is brighter than even the PSP and is clearly visible in any lighting condition. That sound? That'll be Sony executives running to the hills - wearing sunglasses. Since you ask: The Nintendo DS is the fast selling console ever in Japan. When the DS Lite was released, it sold out instantly, with queues of over 1,000 people a common sight. The bottom line: The DS gets a face lift to become Nintendo?s best looking portable ever. - Harrison Dent

Excellent Fun For All Ages! October 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had my NDS Lite for about eight months now and have never regretted buying it. The Black NDS Lite is so cool - I wish the NDS Lites were available in this colour at the time I bought this. I was initially put off with the bulky original DS, but after seeing an NDS Lite thought I would bite the bullet. I also bought an external see through case/skin and a small hard pouch/case to put the nds lite and its peripherals into it. If your going to spend this much money spend a little more to protect your investment. I'm glad I did - Ive dropped this a couple of times onto the floor some time ago (not recommended!), but the hard crystal case/skin (which i bought separately) appears to have saved it.
The NDS Lite itself is incredibly addictive many games use the touch screen stylus and microphone as well as the buttons. I have since played with a PSP and been overawed by the PSP - the games on PSP look way more better than on the NDS, but again Nintendo have got the mixture just right and I still don't regret buying the NDS Lite, would still buy it over the PSP - its my faithful companion that I even take to work (to play during my breaks). Although I initially bought this for myself, my wife is forever 'borrowing' it! This is where another coloured DS Lite would come in handy!
I hate carrying all my cartridges around with me so I ended up buying a m3 ds real, a flash cart that you use instead of the game cartridges. This is a bit if a grey area as although it doesn't invalidate your Nintendo warranty, its usage is frowned upon as a lot of people use it for piracy. But its advantages cannot be denied - Ive got a 8gb micro sdhc card which slots into the m3, and allows me to carry 8gb worth of games all on one cartridge! (you have to download the games, and you can download legal home brew software, but please support the game developers and *only* download the cartridges you own). I tend to find prices on play.com very good for buying nds cartridges. The m3 also allows me to play video, music and pictures on the NDS Lite - something Nintendo should have done ages ago.
Also with some games you can actually export your saved characters onto the Wii!! For example Pokemon Daimond/Pearl on NDS to Pokemon Battle Revolution on the Wii!
If your debating whether or not to buy - just buy it, you wont regret it! (Now all you have to do is choose what colour you want!)
Great; but what good is it if the hinge is flawed? September 30, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The DS Lite is fantastic. Slim, with bright screens and a good balance between power and battery life. The speakers aren't as good as the older DS, but it doesn't really matter. But, you could make it a pocket Cray supercomputer for I care; it has one major fault.
The hinge will not break unless you open and close the console very frequently; I used to play on mine three times a day and listen to MP3s which meant the hinge would cycle 5-6 times a day. A year later, the right hinge came off. And oh, boy, what have we here?
The rachet that locks the screen open is only in the right hinge. So all the stress is on the right hinge. That means it's going to be reinforced. Right? Right? No. It's actually weaker than the left hinge. The little tiny bit of plastic above the R shoulder button is all that holds it on. To aid manufacture, the right hinge is a separate piece that is screwed onto the body using self tapping screws. This puts strain on two points on the already thin tab of plastic. So it cracks through heavy use. No need to abuse it, just open it and close it a few hundred or maybe thousand times and it'll break free. Ah, but Nintendo, acknowledging this fault, would fix it for free?
No. First they ignore my emails, then they ignore my phone calls. Leaving me with a (fully functional but) broken handheld. After purchasing a replacement case off the internet, some modification later I had it back together. Guess what. That one broke in exactly the same way and I had no warranty (not that Nintendo will honour it) left.
So, the Lite. Brilliant for casual users. But for anyone who plans to use it frequently to blot out the British rains in dinnertime death matches, stick to your older DS. It's harder, tougher. I sure wish I had.
Oh, and the screen is even worse outside than the old one. It looks really nice indoors though.
Don't leave home without it, don't be home without it. August 28, 2008 I love this little bundle of joy. Is excellent fun, keeps me entertained and out of trouble. Is easy to take anywhere - excellent for those being sent on courses or away from home through work, or just for something to do in the evening. The range of games available to use with this are increasing with plenty of choice for all, and there's no need to power up, plug in, or go to the study/spare room/computer room if you fancy five minutes on it. Is also very easy to use so no hours of trawling through a manual before enjoying the fun.
Nintendo DS Lite black August 19, 2008 I just bought it really for a long plane journey, but I can't put it down, easy to use, small enough to fit in your bag. Solid construction, it comes with a charger, and spare stylus. Very simple to use even for a non-tech and even if your not into games, you will love this, I have the brain training game and the 42 all time classics, which is fantastic. If your unsure, snatch one off one of your kids or grandkids, and have a go !
GREAT VALUE August 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I, like so many other people, bought this mainly for the brain training game. The console itself is very easy to use, has a good battery life, and most important of all, it is portable so you can play it anywhere. The selection of games for the DS is impressive, with some top quality titles on offer, from puzzle games to RPG's and everthing else in between. The great thing is that Nintendo has aimed the DS at all ages, which is why it has been a huge success for nintendo.
It may not have the the more powerful graphics of Sony's PSP, but it does have amazing playability, and alot of original games that you find on any console. So, if you've been looking at different consoles, give the DS a go and I don't think you'll be disapointed, especialy when there are so many original titles on offer.
